TANZANIAN COURT GRANTS BAIL TO FORMER UBUNGO MAYOR

THE Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to the former Mayor of Ubungo, Boniface Jacob, who has been in custody since September 19, 2024, due to lack of bail.

Today’s decision was delivered by the Senior Resident Magistrate, Franco Kiswaga, who agreed with the arguments presented by the defence, led by Advocate Peter Kibatala.

Boniface has been released on the condition of having two sureties who signed a bond of seven million shillings each, and he is prohibited from travelling outside the country without notification. His case has been adjourned until October 21, 2024.

Jacob, self-branded as “a violence of the silenced majority,” was brought to court on September 19, 2024, where he was denied bail in a case accusing him of publishing “false information” on social media.
